Capture the Magic of the Milky Way
Direction to Allapattah Wildlife Management Area
The location for the Milky Way photo shoot is at the Allapattah Wildlife Management Area which is located about 2.8 miles west of I-95 on Hwy 714 (Palm City area).
While going west on Hwy 714 there will be a yellow diamond shaped road sign with a horse/rider symbol on it. At the signage look on the left or south side of the highway for a turn off to a grass field parking area.
This location will provide a more open view towards the south/southwest. If you have the Photos Pills application this will show you timing and direction for the Milky Way at this location. On Photo Pills, sunset is 6:51pm and MW core will be visible starting around 8:09 pm. Until 10:18pm.
Keep in mind that that weather is the biggest factor in night photography – cloud coverage and rain will be a factor in being able to photograph the Milky Way.
There are no restroom facilities at this location.
Remember to dress to cover yourself and have insect repellant.

What to bring: Your camera and a wide-angle lens with a large maximum aperture—ideally f/2.8 or wider. A sturdy tripod is essential for long exposures. A wireless shutter trigger is also recommended to help minimize camera shake.
Limited instruction will be provided during the photo shoot. Participants should be familiar with their camera’s manual settings.

Milky Way visibility depends on weather and sky conditions.
