    Submission Guidelines & Participation Process

The TCPC Discussion Group is designed to provide meaningful, real-time feedback on your work. To ensure a smooth and productive session for everyone, please follow the guidelines below:

    Image Submission

    • Submit one (1) high-resolution JPEG image for critique
    • Email your submission to: wednesdaydiscussion@tcpcinc.org
    • Use a concise title (1–4 words) as the file name of your image
      • – Example: Golden Flight.jpg
    • Include your full name in the body of the email
    • Ensure your image is properly exported and in standard JPEG format

    Submission Deadline:
Please submit your image prior to the start of the session (by 5PM) to ensure it is included in the review sequence.

    Registration Required

Members must register for each Discussion Group session they plan to attend. Registration ensures you receive access to the session materials and meeting information.

    Pre-Session Communication

After registering—and shortly before the session—you will receive an email that includes:

    • A Google Drive link containing all submitted images for review
    • The conference call dial-in information for the live discussion

Members are encouraged to review the images in advance to prepare thoughtful feedback.

    During the Session

The discussion begins promptly at 6:30 PM. Participants join via the provided conference call number. Images are reviewed one at a time in a structured, collaborative critique environment.

    Post-Session Opportunities

    Following the discussion:

    • You may apply the suggested edits to your image
    • If your image is intended for a TCPC contest, you may submit a refined version incorporating feedback from the session

    Best Practices

    • Submit images you genuinely want feedback on.
    • Be open to critique—this is a learning-focused environment
    • Review other images in advance to maximize your learning experience

This process is designed to help you grow as a photographer by combining thoughtful critique, peer insight, and real-time editing—so you can learn with intention and create with purpose.

Welcome to Wednesday Discussion Groups!

The TCPC Discussion Group is an interactive online critique session designed to help members strengthen their images through thoughtful discussion, constructive feedback, and real-time editing demonstrations.

Members who wish to participate submit a high-resolution image by email (wednesdaydiscussion@tcpcinc.org) prior to the session. Submitted images are placed in a shared Google Drive folder, and members are then emailed a link to the image folder along with the conference call phone number.

At 6:30 PM, members dial into the group discussion. The images are reviewed one at a time. For each image, the group discusses what is working well and suggests possible improvements in areas such as composition, lighting, technical execution, creativity, and emotional impact.

As suggestions are made, the group leader may open the image in editing software and demonstrate possible adjustments in real time. These edits may include cropping, exposure changes, contrast adjustments, color correction, sharpening, noise reduction, or other refinements suggested during the discussion. The revised version is then reposted for continued review so members can compare the original image with the edited version.

The group continues discussing each image until the members feel the critique and suggested edits have been fully explored. The group then moves on to the next submitted image.

To make the discussion more consistent and educational, TCPC may use the same critique rubric used during meeting critiques. This rubric evaluates each image in five areas: Composition, Lighting, Technical Execution, Creativity, and Emotional Impact, with each category scored from 1 to 5. The total score helps guide the discussion, with ratings ranging from “Needs Improvement” to “Excellent.”

This process allows members not only to receive feedback on their own work, but also to learn by observing how other images are analyzed, discussed, and improved. The goal is not simply to judge photographs, but to help members learn with intention and create with purpose.

This structured yet supportive approach encourages participants to think critically about their work, embrace new perspectives, and celebrate each other’s creativity.
